Miniature Embroidered ‘Patchwork’: projects in 1/12 scale

Patchwork has a timeless appeal: it has been much loved over the centuries and its charm still captivates us today.  This book takes a fresh approach to patchwork and shows you how to create thirty three 1/12 scale items for the dolls house that are embroidered to represent well known patchwork patterns.

So there is no fiddly piecing together of tiny scraps of fabric, just clear instructions as to how to embroider the items.

The book guides beginners carefully through the basic stitches and techniques and offers lots of advice on choosing the correct materials and equipment.

Each project is accompanied by really clear instructions, a chart and colour key and is suitable for stitchers of all abilities. Projects include cushions, stool tops, bedspreads, carpets, wall hangings, bath mats, fire screens and chest tops.

Miniature Embroidery: A Foundation Course

This book is intended as a complete guide to the exquisite art of miniature needlepoint and is divided into four parts.

The first covers everything you need to know about fabrics, threads, embroidery frames, needles, scissors, lights and magnifying aids in a question and answer format and provides guidance on how to read embroidery charts.

The second focuses on the following stitches:

Florentine work, cross stitch, half cross stitch, back stitch (including black work), running stitch, tent stitch, Rhodes stitch and Gobelin stitch.

The stitches are accompanied by 30 beautiful 1/12 scale dolls’ house projects to complete, enabling newcomers to the craft to become practised at the stitches as they progress through the book.

The third part discusses how to create your own designs, with instructions on calculating the size of your embroidery and finding inspiration for colour choices.

The final part provides advice on making up the projects within the book. The projects include stools, cushions, chest top, samplers, wall hangings and pictures.
