Quick Tips

  • Press creased fabric carefully with a warm iron before embroidering on it.
  • For counted thread embroidery, work each stitch with a stabbing method rather than taking the needle down and up in the same action.
  • Use a wooden or card frame to keep your fabric taut whilst working.
  • If your thread becomes twisted, hold the work upside down and let the needle drop so that the thread untwists.  Your stitches will be neater.
  • Use short lengths of thread in your needle, about 7”(178mm) on fine fabrics and 9” (229mm) on canvas.
  • Work with a good light and sufficient magnification to enable you to see your embroidery clearly.
